The English Premier League celebrates this week, between November 29 and December 5, the wearing of rainbow-coloured captain’s armbands in support of the LGBT community. However, during Ipswich Town’s match against Crystal Palace, Tuesday, the Egyptian player Sam Morsy, captain of Ipswich Town, repeated what he did in the last round of the English Premier League, and broke the rules of the Premier League, by refusing to wear the “rainbow” armband in his team’s match against Nottingham Forest, which was held last Saturday, in the matches of the 13th round of the English Premier League.
Ipswich said in a statement, Sam Morsy's decision not to wear the rainbow armband is due to religious reasons, expressing respect for the decision of club captain Sam Morsy.
On the other hand, another club captain, English player Marc Guehi captain of Crystal Palace, also caused controversy after he wrote the phrase "I love Jesus" on his armband during Palace's 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Saturday.
Guehi was officially reprimanded by the English Football Association for writing on his armband, but he returned and wrote "Jesus loves you" in a new message on his armband on Tuesday.
The father of Guehi, a priest in the church, criticised the Football Association for reprimanding his son, while not taking any action against Morsy.
