Newcastle United inch closer to the English League Cup final by defeating hosts Arsenal 2-0 on Tuesday evening in the first leg of the semi-final. Swedish striker Alexander Isak opened the scoring for Newcastle in the 38th minute, then Anthony Gordon doubled the score in the 51st minute.
Arsenal then pressed hard to score at least a goal to reduce the difference, but the relentless Newcastle defense and goalkeeper preserved their clean sheet, ending the match with a 2-0 victory for the visitors. Newcastle will host Arsenal in the return match on February 6 to determine who will qualify for the English League Cup final.
In the other semi-final, Liverpool will play Tottenham in the first leg tomorrow, Wednesday, while the second leg will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
