English Premier League club West Ham United announced on Wednesday that it had sacked its Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui due to the team's poor results this season. The English club said in a statement published on its website that "the first half of the 2024-25 season did not meet the club's ambitions, and therefore the club has taken measures in line with its objectives" by sacking Lopetegui.
The statement added: "The club can confirm that assistant coach Pablo Sanz, performance analyst Oscar Caro, lead analyst Juan Vicente Peinado, fitness coach Borja de Alba, and technical coach Edu Rubio have also left the team."
It continued: "The board would like to thank Julen and his staff for their hard work during their time with West Ham and wish them every success in the future."
Lopetegui (58 years old) was appointed coach of West Ham last May on a two-year contract to succeed David Moyes.
Under the Spanish coach, West Ham were knocked out of the League Cup after losing 1-5 to Liverpool last September, and suffered heavy defeats in their last two Premier League matches against Liverpool (0-5) and Manchester City (1-4).
West Ham currently occupies 14th place in the Premier League with 23 points.
