UEFA bans Bayern Munich from wearing its home shirt in the UCL

10 February 2025

Many fans noticed that Bayern Munich stars did not wear the team's main shirts during the Champions League matches this season, as the team appeared in secondary shirts instead of the traditional red shirt.  Statsroom revealed that the secret behind this decision, is due to the restrictions imposed by the European Football Association "UEFA".

According to the website, the main reason is due to the color of the names and numbers printed on the back of Bayern Munich's main red shirt.

The red shirt contains names and numbers in black, which "UEFA" saw as not clear enough, which contradicts the rules of correct vision imposed by the European Union. Bayern Munich had two options to overcome this problem, either to wear the second or third shirt, which the team did in some matches, as it appeared in a white or black shirt; or modify the main shirt, as the club changed the color of the numbers and names from black to white to become more clear and in line with "UEFA" instructions.

Bayern Munich failed to qualify directly for the last 16 of the Champions League, and will have to play a play-off match against the Scottish team Celtic to determine which will qualify for the round of 16.

The Bavarian giants will face Celtic next Wednesday and then will visit Bayer Leverkusen in the summit of the 22nd round of the Bundesliga next Saturday evening.

After the second leg against Celtic on Tuesday, February 18, the team will play against Eintracht Frankfurt on the 23rd of the same month.
