Liverpool moved a step closer to securing the Premier League title with a 1-0 victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday evening, in the 30th round of the competition. Liverpool owed this victory to Portuguese striker Diogo Jota, who scored the only goal of the match in the 57th minute.
The goal came after Jota received a backheel pass from Luis Diaz, dribbled past Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure, and fired a powerful shot into the net from inside the penalty area. This result lifted Liverpool to 73 points at the top of the table, 12 points ahead of second-place Arsenal.
Everton, on the other hand, suffered their first defeat in their last six matches, leaving them in 15th place with 34 points.
