Atletico Madrid returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 away win over Sevilla in the 30th round of the Spanish League on Sunday. Sevilla took the lead through Lucien Agoume after seven minutes, before Argentine Julian Alvarez equalized in the 25th minute from a penalty kick.
The Madrid team snatched the points with a late goal from Pablo Barrios in the third minute of stoppage time. With this victory, Atletico Madrid overcame a slump in their last three matches, and also benefited from the stumbles of their rivals Real Madrid (lost to Valencia) and Barcelona (drawn to Real Betis), closing the gap on them in the title race.
Atletico Madrid moved to 60 points, placing them third in the standings behind Real Madrid (63 points) and Barcelona (67 points).
As for Sevilla, their tally remains at 36 points after their third consecutive loss, remaining in 12th place.
