English clubs have secured 5 Champions League spots for the 2025-26 season following Arsenal's victory over Real Madrid.
English clubs have performed remarkably well in the three European competitions (the Champions League, the Europa League, and the Europa Conference League), leading the Premier League to top the UEFA Club Coefficient rankings. Two English clubs have secured places in the top 10, qualifying for the European Performance Spot (EPS).
Under this system, the fifth-placed team in the 2024-25 Premier League table will qualify directly for the following season's Champions League, bringing the total number of English teams participating in the competition to a minimum of five. The number of English clubs participating in the Champions League could reach seven if the Champions League or Europa League champions fail to finish in the top five domestically.
In this case, the European champions retain their Champions League places regardless of their domestic standings.
UEFA relies on a system known as the Club Association Coefficient to allocate the additional places, which is based on:
- Two points are awarded for each win in European competitions, and one point for each draw.
- Additional points are added based on progress in the knockout stages.
- Bonus points are awarded based on the teams' group stage ranking, with values varying depending on the competition (Champions League, Europa League, and European Conference League).
England currently leads the European coefficient rankings with 169,750 points, ahead of Spain (151,750 points) and Germany (143,375 points). This superiority comes after five English clubs qualified for the quarter-finals in various European competitions, a feat unmatched by any other league this season. Arsenal's resounding 3-0 victory over Real Madrid officially confirmed the Premier League's fifth Champions League place for next season.
The Premier League is witnessing fierce competition among clubs for Champions League qualification spots:
Liverpool leads the standings with 76 points, followed by Arsenal with 62 points. The third and fourth places are fiercely contested by several clubs:
Nottingham Forest (57 points),
Chelsea (53 points),
Newcastle (53 points),
Manchester City (52 points),
Aston Villa (51 points).
