Mohamed Salah Reveals Secrets Behind His Golden Season with Liverpool and Announces His Retirement Date

26 May 2025

Egyptian Mohamed Salah, Liverpool star, has officially clinched the Premier League Golden Boot award this season. The Liverpool star confirmed that winning the PFA Player of the Year award for the third time is different from the first time, noting that his happiness is compounded by the fact that the award coincides with the Reds' Premier League title.

The Egyptian star made statements about several recent details and issues. In his interview with On Sports, he indicated that his personality has changed significantly during his professional journey, which began in 2011, 14 years ago. He said, "I live the life I want, not what is expected of me. In Europe, a player's life is all about football, but in Egypt, football is only part of his day. Living abroad wasn't easy. I remember the first two months in Switzerland, talking to myself because I didn't speak the language."

He concluded, "Many people have gone professional and then returned to play for Al-Ahly or Zamalek, but I always know what I want and I don't feel like I need to prove myself to anyone. I live for what makes me happy." He emphasized: "The English Premier League is the strongest in the world. Any other league could be decided early, but the Premier League remains exciting until the end."

He pointed out that the players closest to him on the team are Dominik Szoboszlai and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Regarding his professional future and retirement, he said: "I will stop playing when I feel the time is right. Now I feel I can continue until I am 39 or 40."

Mohamed Salah topped the scoring charts with 29 goals, six goals ahead of his closest competitor, Swedish striker Alexander Isak, of Newcastle United.

However, the Egyptian star lost the biggest challenge facing the "Pharaoh," which was the race for the European Golden Boot, finishing in third place, two goals behind the leader, French striker Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid.
