Premier Sports Cup Last 16: Celtic Draw Falkirk, Rangers to Face Alloa

Defending champions Celtic will welcome newly promoted Falkirk to Celtic Park in the last 16 of the Premier Sports Cup, following the completion of the group stages.

Meanwhile, League One side Alloa Athletic, who impressed by topping their group, have been handed a tough away tie at Ibrox against Rangers.

The final slot among group winners was secured by St Mirren after their 2-1 victory over Ayr United.

Stephen Robinson’s men now face a challenging test at home against fellow Scottish Premiership side Heart of Midlothian.

Despite losing to St Mirren, Ayr edged through as one of the three best runners-up, narrowly beating Dunfermline Athletic on goal difference.

Their reward is a trip to Championship rivals Partick Thistle.

Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Dundee United, and Hibernian all entered the competition at this stage, having received byes due to their involvement in European qualifiers.

Aberdeen face a visit to Greenock Morton, while Dundee United and Hibs hit the road to face Premiership opponents—Kilmarnock and newly promoted Livingston, respectively.

Relegated St Johnstone will host Motherwell in a clash between two former top-flight sides.

All ties are scheduled for the weekend of 16–17 August. Finalised dates and television coverage will be confirmed later this week, pending UEFA competition outcomes.

Reactions from the Managers:

Stephen Robinson (St Mirren): "Our first aim was to progress and get a home draw—job done on both fronts. Of course, Hearts are a massive club, spending big money and with high expectations, but we believe in our squad and fancy our chances at home."

Scott Brown (Ayr United): "It feels like we play Partick Thistle every other week! We were hoping for a home tie, but it’s another chance to test ourselves. We went toe-to-toe with a Premiership side today, especially in the second half, and we’ll take that belief into the next round."
