Tottenham Hotspur have been hit with a significant setback ahead of the new season, as midfielder James Maddison is expected to be sidelined for an extended period due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, according to the BBC.
The 28-year-old sustained the injury during a pre-season clash against Newcastle United and had to be stretchered off the field. Manager Thomas Frank revealed that the damage was to the same knee Maddison previously injured—raising concerns over a recurring issue.
Maddison’s fitness has been a growing concern, with a knee injury also ruling him out of the final stretch of last season. This latest development not only jeopardises a large portion of his 2025 campaign but also raises questions about his long-term durability and role in Ange Postecoglou’s evolving Spurs side.
With Maddison central to Tottenham's creative output, his absence will likely force a tactical rethink, particularly in midfield where depth and playmaking will now be tested under pressure early in the season.
