Manchester United have opted not to pursue Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, Liverpool have decided to retain Joe Gomez despite interest from AC Milan, and Chelsea appear set to keep Raheem Sterling at Stamford Bridge.
Aston Villa did not receive a formal offer from Manchester United for Martinez, the 32-year-old Argentine who has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford. United reportedly ruled out a transfer due to Martinez’s age and wages, which are estimated at around £200,000 per week.
Martinez himself was reportedly not interested in a move to Galatasaray, despite Turkish reports of a €25m (£21.6m) bid.
Liverpool, meanwhile, refused to let 28-year-old Joe Gomez join AC Milan after the Italian side’s attempt to sign fellow England defender Marc Guehi, 25, from Crystal Palace failed. Guehi’s farewell video from Crystal Palace circulated on social media, but the defender remains focused on completing the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, with a free transfer planned next summer.
On deadline day, Bayern Munich expressed interest in taking Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman, 27, from Atalanta on a season-long loan.
Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling, 30, looks set to stay at Stamford Bridge, with no significant offers emerging from clubs in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, or the United States, even though their transfer windows remain open.
Crystal Palace withdrew from a potential loan deal for Tottenham’s Israeli forward Manor Solomon, 26, despite a deadline extension allowing more time to finalize the move.
A proposed transfer of Wales midfielder Harry Wilson from Fulham to Leeds collapsed after Fulham reversed their decision to sell the 28-year-old. The collapse of that deal also ended Chelsea’s potential move for 19-year-old English winger Tyrique George.
Danish forward Will Osula, 22, will remain at Newcastle United despite late interest from Eintracht Frankfurt for a season-long loan.
Newcastle insiders have suggested that Sweden striker Alexander Isak, 25, exhibited behavior and performances from April onwards that indicated a lack of commitment to helping the team qualify for the Champions League.
