England U17 Victory Overshadowed by Racist Abuse Allegations

England’s Under-17 side secured a 2-1 comeback win over Venezuela in a friendly on Tuesday, but the match was twice interrupted due to reports of racist abuse directed at players.

The disruptions came during the second half in Duisburg, Germany, when players temporarily left the pitch as officials sought to address the matter. While it has not been confirmed who the abuse was aimed at, sources indicate that the remarks may have come from members of the Venezuelan team.

England head coach Liam Bramley was seen consoling his squad as they regrouped. Following the match, the Football Association (FA) underlined its stance on the issue, stating that its immediate concern is the welfare of the young players and staff. The governing body added that discussions are ongoing with both tournament organisers and the relevant authorities to determine the appropriate course of action.

On the field, England overturned a one-goal deficit through strikes from Metz forward Brian Madjo and Chelsea defender Ryan Kavuma-McQueen to seal the victory.

The match was the first of three fixtures England will contest in Duisburg as part of their preparations for the upcoming Euro 2026 qualifying campaign in Lithuania next month.
