The Italian national team has suffered a significant blow ahead of its crucial matches against Estonia and Israel in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with the injury of striker Gianluca Scamacca. Scamacca left the Italian national team's training camp on Thursday due to a knee injury.
The Italian national team cannot afford to lose any of its next two matches to avoid failing to qualify for the World Cup. Italy will face Estonia in Bergamo on Friday and then Israel in Hungary next Monday.
Italy has collected three points from its first two qualifiers, while Norway leads Group I with 12 points from four matches, followed by Israel with six points from three matches.
In Scamacca's absence, Fiorentina forward Moise Kean are expected to lead Italy's attack. Second option will be Retegui, who topped the Serie A scorers list last season with 25 goals for his former club Atalanta, recently joined Saudi club Al-Qadisiyah.
Fiorentina forward Kean finished second in the Serie A top scorers list last season with 19 goals.
