Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush could be sidelined for Sunday’s Manchester derby after suffering a knee ligament issue while on international duty with Egypt.
The 26-year-old picked up the injury just minutes into Egypt’s World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou on Tuesday. After colliding with an opponent, Marmoush attempted to continue but was forced to withdraw early in the first half.
The Egyptian Football Association later confirmed that the forward had sustained bruising to the knee ligaments and would undergo medical scans upon his return to Cairo to determine the severity of the problem.
Marmoush’s condition will be closely monitored by City’s medical staff as they prepare for a pivotal clash against Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium. Both sides are under pressure to secure a result following inconsistent starts to the Premier League campaign.
Since arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt in a £59 million ($79.8m) deal in January, Marmoush has quickly become an important figure for Arne Slot’s side, scoring eight goals in 28 appearances across all competitions. His absence would limit City’s attacking options ahead of one of their most high-profile fixtures of the season.
