Moments of joy filled the streets of Morocco after the Atlas Cubs achieved an unprecedented feat by qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup final for the first time in Moroccan football history. On a night that will live long in the memory, the Moroccan national team defeated its French counterpart 5-4 on penalties, after the two teams had drawn 1-1 after regular and extra time on Wednesday evening in the semi-finals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
As soon as the final whistle blew, a wave of joy and jubilation swept through the streets of Morocco's major cities. In Rabat, Casablanca, and elsewhere, fans of all ages flooded into the streets, squares, and public spaces, waving national flags, wearing Moroccan national team jerseys, and chanting enthusiastic songs, in a scene that reflected the intensity of their passion for the team.
The celebrations were not limited to the physical world, but extended strongly into the digital sphere, with social media platforms flooded with videos and photos documenting the spontaneous moments of jubilation, which continued until the early hours of Thursday morning.
Morocco became the second Arab team to reach the final in the history of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, following Qatar's achievement in the 1981 edition.
The Moroccan national team is scheduled to play its final match against Argentina next Sunday, a match that embodies the ambitions of an entire generation seeking to write its name in gold letters in the annals of world football.
