Bryan Mbeumo scored twice as Manchester United survived a late Brighton fightback to seal a 4-2 victory at Old Trafford — their third consecutive Premier League win and a climb into the top four.
United looked in full control after an hour, leading 3-0 through Matheus Cunha’s clinical strike, Casemiro’s deflected effort, and Mbeumo’s sharp finish.
But Brighton hit back when former United forward Danny Welbeck curled home a stunning free-kick, before Charalampos Kostoulas’ header deep into stoppage time set up a tense finale.
Mbeumo ended the nerves moments later, smashing his second goal into the roof of the net to secure all three points for Ruben Amorim’s side.
Cunha’s opener — his first goal in 16 matches — came from the edge of the area after a clever pass from Casemiro.
The Brazilian midfielder then made it 2-0 with a shot that took a wicked deflection off Yasin Ayari, wrong-footing Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen.
United captain Bruno Fernandes, making his 300th appearance for the club, was denied a goal by Verbruggen before Mbeumo struck his fifth of the season.
Brighton’s spirited response wasn’t enough to deny United, who have transformed their fortunes under Amorim after a difficult start to the campaign.
Analysis: New Signings Lift United’s AttackUnited’s summer recruits Cunha and Mbeumo, signed for a combined £130m, are proving their worth.
Both bring pace, creativity, and a ruthless edge that has revitalised United’s front line.
Amorim’s attacking system finally looks balanced, with Fernandes linking play and Mbeumo providing consistent end product.
Brighton’s StrugglesFor Brighton, midfielder Carlos Baleba endured a night to forget.
The young Cameroonian never settled, losing possession in key areas and failing to influence the game before being substituted just before the hour mark.
United, meanwhile, look rejuvenated — a team with belief, identity, and momentum once again.
