Matty Cash commits future to Aston Villa with new deal until 2029

Aston Villa defender Matty Cash has signed a new long-term contract keeping him at the club until 2029, extending his stay in Birmingham by a further two years.

The Poland international, who joined Villa from Nottingham Forest in 2020, has become one of the club’s most consistent performers, making 193 appearances in claret and blue. His previous contract was due to expire in 2027.

Cash underlined his growing influence with the winning goal in Villa’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City on Sunday — his second of the campaign — as Unai Emery’s side continue their impressive Premier League form.

Speaking after the match, the 28-year-old reflected on his confidence and improved attacking output this season:

“I’m playing with a lot of confidence,” Cash said. “I’ve always had a good shot, but I’ve never really shown it in games. This season, things seem to be going my way — whenever I’m on the edge of the box, I feel confident and believe I can hit the target.”

Since his arrival at Villa Park, Cash has developed into a key figure both defensively and offensively, thriving under Emery’s high-intensity system.

Born in England to a Polish mother, Cash chose to represent Poland internationally, making his debut in 2021 and featuring at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He remains the first-choice right-back for both club and country.

Villa’s decision to secure Cash on a long-term deal underscores their commitment to retaining the core of Emery’s project, as the club continues to establish itself among the Premier League’s top contenders.
