Kompany: Bayern Must Deliver ‘Perfect Game’ to Overcome PSG

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has warned that his side will need to produce a “perfect performance” to stand any chance of defeating defending champions Paris Saint-Germain in Tuesday’s highly anticipated Champions League clash.

Bayern travel to Paris in imperious domestic form, having extended their record-breaking winning streak across Europe’s top five leagues to 15 consecutive victories following a 3–0 triumph over Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. The run surpasses the previous record of 13 wins set by AC Milan in the 1992–93 season.

“I think you have to believe you can do it, and then you need a perfect game,” Kompany said during Monday’s press conference. “It’s the classic answer — they’re last season’s Champions League winners and favourites again this year. But we still have to believe in our chances.”

Both Bayern and PSG have taken maximum points from their opening three group-stage fixtures and are level on goal difference, setting up a contest that could determine control of the group. PSG, unbeaten in their last eight competitive matches, will have Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé available, after the winger scored in the French side’s Club World Cup quarterfinal victory over Bayern earlier this year.

Kompany emphasised the need for a collective approach against the star-studded Parisian squad.

“With PSG, it’s about the collective,” he explained. “It’s not enough to focus on one player. Yes, they have exceptional individuals, but what makes them so strong is how they operate as a team in every phase of play.”

The Belgian coach also drew parallels between the two clubs’ tactical setups and mentality.

“The reality is that we have similar conditions,” Kompany said. “It’s not just about domination — it’s about how both teams communicate and execute their ideas. That’s what people want to see.”

With both sides vying for early qualification, Kompany acknowledged the magnitude of the encounter.

“Whoever wins tomorrow will take a big step toward reaching the top eight and progressing to the knockout stage,” he concluded.

The fixture promises to be a defining moment in the group stage — a meeting between two European powerhouses at the peak of their form, each determined to make a statement in pursuit of continental glory.
