Atletico Madrid Trio Ruled Out of Argentina’s Angola Friendly Due to Vaccine Complications

Argentina will be without Atlético Madrid trio Julián Álvarez, Nahuel Molina, and Giuliano Simeone for Friday’s friendly against Angola, after the players failed to complete mandatory vaccination procedures required for entry into the country, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) confirmed on Monday.

The issue stems from the yellow fever vaccine, which is legally required for travellers entering regions where the disease is present, including parts of Africa and South America. Yellow fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection that can cause serious illness, and vaccination is a key preventive measure.

“The players did not complete in time the health procedures related to the yellow fever vaccine, which is required to enter Angola,” the AFA said in an official statement.

The absence of the three players comes as Argentina, already qualified for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, prepare for their friendly fixture in Luanda.

The match is expected to provide coach Lionel Scaloni with an opportunity to test squad depth and evaluate fringe players ahead of next year’s global tournament, though the late withdrawals have forced adjustments to his plans.
