Spain Crush Georgia to All But Seal 2026 World Cup Spot

Spain moved to the brink of automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup with a dominant win over Georgia in Tbilisi.

Luis de la Fuente’s side now sit three points clear at the top of Group E with one match to go — and only a seven-goal defeat to Turkey in Sevilla on Tuesday could stop the 2010 champions booking their ticket.

Spain struck early, opening the scoring after just 11 minutes when Mikel Oyarzabal converted from the spot following a Giorgi Gocholeishvili handball.

Arsenal’s Martin Zubimendi doubled the lead soon after, lifting the ball over keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, before Ferran Torres made it 3-0 before the break from Oyarzabal’s clever pass.

The pair linked up again in the second half, Torres delivering a curling cross for Oyarzabal to head home Spain’s fourth.

Top of the FIFA world rankings, Spain remain perfect in qualifying — five wins from five, 19 goals scored, none conceded.

Turkey’s 2-0 win over Bulgaria kept their faint hopes alive, but with a far inferior goal difference, they would need a miraculous seven-goal victory over Spain to steal the group.

Barring the unthinkable, Spain will be at the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
