Brighton Cruise Past Leicester to Claim First WSL Win

Brighton snapped their long winless run in the Women’s Super League with a confident 4–1 victory over Leicester City at the American Express Stadium.

Despite Leicester’s strong opening spell, it was Brighton who struck first.

Madison Haley lifted the ball past goalkeeper Janina Leitzig just before the half-hour mark, and Maelys Mpome doubled the lead only minutes after the restart following a high press from the hosts.

Leicester pulled one back through Shannon O’Brien with 15 minutes to play, but Brighton closed the door late on as Marisa Olislagers fired in from the edge of the area and Kiko Seike pounced on a rebound to seal the points.

The Foxes had enough early chances to put the game out of sight, but Brighton goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie delivered a superb performance, denying Jutta Rantala, blocking O’Brien one-on-one, and sweeping up danger outside her box.

Brighton’s opener came shortly after Seike hit the bar.

The Japanese forward then released Haley, who coolly clipped in the finish.

Mpome’s goal early in the second half punished sloppy Leicester defending, while O’Brien’s neat finish offered brief hope for the visitors before Brighton’s late surge.

The win lifts Brighton to seventh with 11 points from nine matches. Leicester, now on six points, remain ninth-just four above bottom club Liverpool.

Analysis: Leicester Hit Unwanted Milestone as Brighton Find Their Cutting Edge

Leicester arrived chasing a long-overdue away win but instead set an unwelcome WSL record.

Sunday’s defeat extended their run to 21 away matches without victory—surpassing Yeovil Town’s previous mark.

Following last week’s late draw at West Ham, manager Rick Passmoor will feel his side let this one slip early on.

Leicester’s wing-backs caused Brighton trouble, and they created several clear chances, but Nnadozie’s superb goalkeeping repeatedly kept the hosts alive.

Brighton, who had not won in the league since September and had been stunned by Charlton in the League Cup midweek, improved as the game went on.

Their finishing was decisive, in stark contrast to Leicester’s wastefulness.

The Foxes also suffered a further setback when Rantala, one of their brightest players, left the pitch injured.

While Brighton move away from the drop zone, Leicester’s form is worrying.

With Everton, West Ham, and Liverpool all within reach, a relegation battle could be looming unless performances turn into results.
