Ronaldo on the Verge of a World Cup Record After Portugal's Qualification for the 2026 World Cup

16 November 2025

Football legend and Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo is poised to achieve a new record, adding to his already impressive list of achievements in the world of football.

Ronaldo is set to participate in another World Cup finals after his national team qualified for the 2026 tournament following a resounding 9-1 victory over Armenia on Sunday in the final match of Group F in the European qualifiers.

Ronaldo missed the match, which was held in Porto, Portugal, due to suspension, but his absence secured Portugal's place in the World Cup for a record sixth time.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner will turn 41 when the tournament kicks off in June, and he recently stated that this will be his last chance to win the coveted title that has eluded him.

If the captain of the Portuguese national team and Saudi club Al-Nassr maintains his fitness, he is expected to be included in Portugal's squad, despite facing a potential two-match suspension following his red card in his country's 2-0 loss to Ireland last Thursday.

It is worth noting that Ronaldo, who won the European Championship with Portugal in 2016 and two UEFA Nations League titles, has participated in the World Cup with his national team in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022.
