Courtois ruled out of Real Madrid’s Champions League trip to Olympiacos

Real Madrid will travel to Athens without first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who has been sidelined by a stomach virus ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League fixture against Olympiacos.

The club confirmed on Tuesday that the Belgian international has been diagnosed with viral gastroenteritis, ruling him out of the squad for the crucial league-phase encounter.

Andriy Lunin is expected to start in goal for the 15-time European champions, who currently sit seventh in the league-phase standings.

Madrid arrive in Greece amid a dip in form, having failed to win any of their last three matches in all competitions. Their most recent Champions League outing ended in a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, adding to the pressure as they seek to regain momentum.
