UEFA has issued Atlético Madrid a €30,000 ($34,749) fine and imposed a suspended one-match ban on the club’s travelling supporters following “racist and discriminatory” behaviour by sections of their fanbase during last month’s 4-0 Champions League defeat to Arsenal.
In addition to the primary sanction, European football’s governing body levied a further €10,000 fine after Atlético supporters were found to have thrown objects inside Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium during the match.
The suspended ban prevents Atlético from selling away tickets for one Champions League fixture, with the punishment set aside for a one-year probationary period contingent on the club avoiding similar offences.
Atlético resume their Champions League campaign against PSV Eindhoven on 10 December. They currently sit 12th in the group-phase standings with nine points from five matches.
