Guardiola unsure when injured Rodri will return for Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he remains uncertain about when Rodri will be fit to return, as the midfielder continues to struggle with injury setbacks.

The Spain international missed a significant portion of last season with a knee injury and has featured for just one minute in City's last 10 matches, this time due to a hamstring issue. Rodri has been ruled out of Tuesday’s Premier League match against Fulham and is also a doubt for Saturday’s home fixture against Sunderland.

When asked if Rodri was available, Guardiola offered a brief response during a short press conference:

“No, not yet.”

Pressed on the possibility of the midfielder returning at the weekend, he added:

“I don’t know.”

Donnarumma discipline questioned

Guardiola also addressed the situation involving goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who received his fourth booking in City colours during the dramatic 3–2 comeback win over Leeds on Saturday.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke accused Donnarumma of exaggerating an injury to give Guardiola an opportunity to deliver tactical instructions—an accusation City have not responded to directly. The Italian goalkeeper is now one yellow card away from suspension.

Guardiola’s reaction was succinct:

“Yes, he has a lot of bookings. It is what it is.”

He confirmed he has not spoken to Donnarumma about the issue.

Guardiola praises Fulham and Marco Silva

The City manager was more expansive when discussing upcoming opponents Fulham and their manager Marco Silva, who recently oversaw an impressive 2–1 victory at Tottenham.

“Marco has been many years there, and it’s always really tough games,” Guardiola said. “Their organisation is exceptional. Every year, with the ball, they are better and better. Tough opponent.”

He noted Fulham’s strong recent performances against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Sunderland, emphasising the challenge City will face at Craven Cottage.

“It’s always so difficult for opponents to break them down. It has always been like that in this beautiful stadium in London.”

Rodri’s uncertain return and Donnarumma’s disciplinary concerns add to City’s challenges as they prepare for crucial fixtures in the week ahead.
