Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are set to make history next year as they meet outside the United Kingdom for the first time, with both clubs confirmed for a pre-season tour in Sydney, organisers announced on Monday.
The London rivals will headline the "Sydney Super Cup", with Chelsea also scheduled to face A-League outfit Western Sydney Wanderers, while Spurs are lined up to take on Sydney FC.
The highly anticipated derby will take place on 1 August at the 83,000-seat Olympic Stadium, marking a new chapter in the clubs' long-standing rivalry.
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank expressed his excitement ahead of the tour, saying:
"I've heard all about our passionate fan base in Australia and it's something the club is very proud of. I can't wait to experience that for myself."
Chelsea's women’s team will also feature on tour, led by Australian stars Sam Kerr and Elie Carpenter, who will face a women's A-League All-Stars side on 12 August.
A-League chief Stephen Conroy described the event as a milestone for the game:
"The 2026 Sydney Super Cup is set to be a fantastic exhibition of world-class football. It's a great opportunity for the international talent across our leagues to test themselves against giants of world football."
