Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen suffered a serious ACL tear during training with the Catalan club, potentially sidelining him for an extended period. Barcelona stated in a press release on Monday that the Danish player sustained a knee sprain that caused the injury.
The 29-year-old has made 97 appearances for Barcelona since joining in 2012 and has also earned 79 caps for Denmark.
This injury is likely to rule Christensen out of Denmark's World Cup 2026 playoff against North Macedonia on March 26.
The European playoff final will take place five days later between the winner of the Denmark-North Macedonia match and the winner of the Czech Republic-Ireland match. The winner of that match will qualify for the 2026 World Cup and play in Group A.
