Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of BK Häcken defender Hanna Wijk on a long-term contract, subject to international clearance and the granting of a work permit.
The 22-year-old full-back becomes Spurs’ second addition of the transfer window under head coach Martin Ho, following the club’s agreement in November to sign Norway winger Signe Gaupset. The move underlines Tottenham’s continued focus on recruiting young, high-upside talent with experience at senior level.
Wijk arrives in north London after a lengthy spell with Häcken, whom she joined at the age of 16. Since making her senior debut in 2020, she has accumulated 107 appearances for the Swedish club, establishing herself as a consistent performer and earning her first senior cap for Sweden. Her development trajectory suggests both immediate squad value and long-term potential.
Speaking after completing the move, Wijk highlighted the emotional significance of the transfer and her long-standing ambition to test herself abroad.
“It feels great to be here – I got goosebumps when I put on the shirt,” she said. “It has always been my dream to move abroad from Sweden and play in this league. I love the league and followed it closely from home, so I’m really looking forward to playing here in England and for Spurs.”
Ho stressed that Wijk’s signing was the result of strong competition in the market and viewed her decision as a validation of Tottenham’s long-term vision.
“Hanna was in demand across the market, and we are very pleased that she chose Tottenham Hotspur for the next stage of her career,” Ho said. “Her decision reflects the ambition of our project and the clarity of the pathway we offer. We believe she will continue to develop with us while helping to raise the competitive standards within the squad.”
Tottenham’s recruitment work is ongoing. Häcken midfielder Matilda Nildén, 21, remains on the club’s radar, while Spurs are also hopeful of securing Japan international Maika Hamano, 21, on loan from Chelsea, as they look to further strengthen the squad ahead of the second half of the season.
