The Ivory Coast national team continued its title defense in the Africa Cup of Nations with a resounding 3-0 victory over Burkina Faso on Tuesday evening, securing their place in the quarter-finals of the tournament being held in Morocco. The Ivorian team took a 2-0 lead in the first half, with goals from Amad Diallo and Yann Diomande in the 20th and 32nd minutes, respectively, in the match played in Marrakech.
In the second half, Bazoumana Touré added a third goal in the 87th minute. Ivory Coast now faces a tough challenge against Egypt, who defeated Benin 3-1 on Monday evening after extra time.
The match between Egypt and Ivory Coast will be a classic encounter between two teams that have won the continental title a combined 10 times. Egypt remains the most decorated team with seven titles, the last of which came in 2010, while Ivory Coast has won it three times in 1992, 2015, and 2023. The Ivorian national team reached the knockout stages of the current edition of the tournament after topping Group F with 7 points, ahead of Cameroon, who finished second, on goal difference. Burkina Faso advanced as runners-up in Group E with 6 points, behind Algeria, who achieved a perfect record (9 points).
