Manchester City Land Antoine Semenyo in £65m Bournemouth Deal

Manchester City have completed the signing of Ghana winger Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth after triggering his £65m release clause.

The Premier League champions will pay an initial £62.5m in instalments spread over two years, with add-ons included, making Semenyo the most expensive sale in Bournemouth’s history.

The 26-year-old has signed a long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium running until 2031.

“I’m incredibly proud to join Manchester City,” Semenyo said.

“This club sets the benchmark in football."

"The players, the facilities and the manager are all world-class. I feel this is the perfect place for me to grow and reach my best level.”

Semenyo will wear the number 42 shirt, previously made famous by Yaya Toure, and is expected to be involved immediately, with Pep Guardiola confirming the winger will be part of the squad for Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Exeter.

Guardiola praised City’s newest arrival, saying: “He was outstanding at Bournemouth."

"He can play on either wing, knows the league well and had interest from many clubs."

"He’s at the ideal age and his best years are still ahead of him.”

The move follows an emotional farewell at Bournemouth, where Semenyo scored a stoppage-time winner in a 3-2 victory over Tottenham earlier this week.

City fended off competition from Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs to secure his signature.

Semenyo has enjoyed a prolific campaign, scoring 10 league goals in 20 appearances this season, placing him among the Premier League’s top scorers.

One more goal would match his total from the entirety of last season.

Director of football Hugo Viana described the winger as City’s top target: “Antoine has pace, power, technical quality and a real impact on games."

"He’s driven, humble and eager to improve. We believe he fits perfectly into our project.”

Bournemouth signed Semenyo from Bristol City for around £10m in January 2023, and he departs having contributed 32 goals and 13 assists in 110 matches.

His rise has taken him from the Championship and lower-league loan spells to one of Europe’s elite clubs, marking another significant chapter in his rapid ascent.
