Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has no intention of seeking a move away from the club during the January transfer window, despite growing speculation surrounding his future at Old Trafford.
Reports in recent days have suggested the 31-year-old is reassessing his position following the dismissal of head coach Ruben Amorim, a decision that plunged United into another period of instability. Those concerns were amplified when Fernandes was seen meeting Carlos Fernandes, a member of Amorim’s coaching staff, shortly after the Portuguese manager’s departure.
However, sources close to the situation insist Fernandes remains fully committed to Manchester United. While the club has undergone further disruption—first with Darren Fletcher overseeing two matches as interim head coach, before Michael Carrick was appointed caretaker manager for the remainder of the season—there has been no change in Fernandes’ short-term plans.
It has long been understood that Fernandes intended to review his future in the summer, when he will enter the final year of his current contract. That position has not shifted, and there is no desire from the player to force an exit midway through the campaign.
Fernandes rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal last summer and continues to attract interest from the region. However, should he eventually leave United, his preference would be to remain in European football rather than move to the Middle East.
The Portugal international recently admitted he was “hurt” to learn that the club had been open to selling him, revealing that he felt senior figures lacked the courage to address the issue directly. He suggested Amorim had been keen for him to stay, further underlining the complexity of his relationship with the club’s hierarchy.
For now, though, Fernandes’ focus remains on leading United through a turbulent period, with any major decisions about his future deferred until the end of the season.
