Buendía and Watkins Fire Aston Villa to Historic Win against Newcastle

Aston Villa produced a composed and clinical performance to secure a long-awaited victory at St James’ Park, as goals from Emiliano Buendía and Ollie Watkins sealed a deserved win over Newcastle United.

The result marked Villa’s first triumph on Tyneside in nearly two decades and underlined why Unai Emery’s side have been one of the Premier League’s most effective teams away from home this season.

Villa struck first midway through the opening half when Buendía delivered a moment of brilliance.

The Argentine attacker collected the ball outside the penalty area and delicately lifted it over Nick Pope, silencing the home crowd with a stunning finish.

Newcastle had opportunities of their own, particularly early on.

Sandro Tonali came close within seconds of kick-off, weaving through defenders before being denied by Emiliano Martínez, who also produced an impressive save to keep out Lewis Miley’s header just before the break.

Nick Pope, meanwhile, was forced into action at the other end, twice preventing Watkins from scoring.

Despite Newcastle’s efforts, Villa remained dangerous and eventually wrapped up the contest late in the game.

Substitute Lucas Digne delivered a precise cross, and Watkins rose unmarked to head home, confirming the visitors’ dominance and sending the travelling supporters into celebration.

The defeat was a frustrating setback for Newcastle, who had hoped to climb the table with a win.

Their struggles were amplified by the absence of captain Bruno Guimarães, sidelined with an ankle injury.

Without him, Newcastle lacked their usual control and leadership in midfield, and their attacking threat faded as the match progressed.

Villa, on the other hand, showcased their attacking versatility once again.

Buendía’s long-range strike highlighted their ability to score from distance, while Watkins’ header demonstrated their effectiveness inside the box.

With Emery’s side now level on points with Manchester City, their blend of creativity and efficiency continues to make them a serious force in the Premier League.
