Abraham returns to Aston Villa as club strengthens surprise title push

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Tammy Abraham from Besiktas, moving to reinforce their attacking options as they continue an unexpected challenge for the Premier League title.

The 28-year-old striker returns to English football after five years abroad, having featured for Roma, AC Milan and most recently Besiktas during the first half of the season.

Villa currently sit just four points behind leaders Arsenal and are chasing a first top-flight league title since 1981. Unai Emery’s side are also among the leading contenders for the Europa League, underlining the scale of their progress this season.

The deal is reported to be worth £18 million, with Besiktas having exercised an option earlier this month to make Abraham’s loan move from Roma permanent for £11 million before agreeing his sale to Villa.

Abraham is no stranger to Villa Park, having enjoyed a prolific loan spell during his time at Chelsea. He scored 26 goals in 40 appearances in the 2018–19 campaign, playing a pivotal role in Villa’s promotion back to the Premier League from the Championship.

“Some clubs play a big part in your journey and stay with you,” Abraham said. “I’ve scored goals, faced challenges, and grown as a player and as a man. I’m back at Aston Villa, ready to work and give everything.”

After leaving Chelsea in 2021 in a £34 million move to Roma, Abraham made an immediate impact, helping the Italian side win their first-ever European trophy with victory in the Conference League during his debut season.

His momentum was later halted by a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury, before he spent the 2024–25 campaign on loan at AC Milan. Abraham joined Besiktas in July and rediscovered his scoring form, netting 13 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions.

Villa will hope his familiarity with the club and renewed confidence in front of goal can provide a decisive boost as they pursue silverware on multiple fronts.
