Jordan suffers major injury blow ahead of the 2026 World Cup

9 February 2026

Qatar's Al-Sailiya football club announced the injury of their Jordanian international striker, Ali Alwan, who joined the team on January 24th, and the expected duration of his absence from the pitch. Al-Sailiya stated on their "X" platform account: "Medical examinations have confirmed that player Ali Alwan has suffered a torn ankle ligament. The player will undergo surgery to stabilize and support the injured ligaments."

They added: "The recovery period may take three months before he returns to the field. We wish him a speedy recovery and a stronger return to the team."

Ali Alwan's injury comes just months before the Jordanian national team's first ever participation in the 2026 World Cup finals, scheduled to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Ali Alwan (25 years old) is one of the most prominent players on the "Nashama" (Jordanian national team), having scored 27 goals and provided 4 assists in 57 international appearances.

It is worth noting that the Jordanian national team had also lost the services of its star player Yazan Al-Naimat earlier, as the player underwent surgery after suffering an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament.
