Manchester City tightened their grip on the Premier League leaders, Arsenal, after a valuable 2-1 victory over Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening. Nico O'Reilly scored both of City's goals in the 14th and 27th minutes, while Lewis Hall scored Newcastle's lone goal in the 22nd minute.

This marks Manchester City's third consecutive win against Newcastle this season, having also defeated them both home and away in the Carabao Cup semi-finals. City also avenged their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle in the first leg of the season.

The two teams will meet again for the fifth time this season in early March in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

With this victory, Manchester City moved up to second place in the league table with 56 points, two points behind leaders Arsenal, who will visit Tottenham in the derby later today.

Newcastle, meanwhile, remain on 36 points and drop to tenth place in the standings.
