Slot backs Mohamed Salah ahead of West Ham clash

27 February 2026

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has back Reds star Mohamed Salah after questions arose about his lack of goals. Liverpool host West Ham in the 28th round of the English Premier League on Saturday evening at Anfield.

Slot praised his Egyptian star Mohamed Salah in comments published by the Liverpool Echo: "Salah has set his own standards, and they are so high that people are surprised when he doesn't score."

Slot continued: "You can change the stats and say he hasn't scored in nine league games, and that's the standard Salah has set for himself. I think I should have gone into more detail about the performance, but this isn't the time for that." Slot added: "We're used to Mo scoring goals, and it happens. I also get questions about Salah not scoring in three or four games, but he always comes back and scores. He's not the only striker who isn't scoring as much as Hugo Ekteke and Cody Gakpo; it's also about the team as a whole."

Salah has scored four goals and provided six assists in 19 Premier League appearances this season.

Liverpool currently sit sixth in the table with 45 points, while West Ham are in 18th place with 25 points.
