Rani Khedira, the younger brother of former Germany international Sami Khedira, has officially switched his international allegiance to Tunisia, the Tunisian Football Federation confirmed on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old Union Berlin defensive midfielder was born in Stuttgart and previously represented Germany at youth level. However, he never made a senior appearance for the national team, leaving the door open for a change in international representation.
Khedira qualifies to play for Tunisia through his father, who is of Tunisian origin.
His older brother Sami Khedira enjoyed a highly successful international career with Germany, most notably winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup as part of Joachim Löw’s squad.
In a statement published on social media, the Tunisian FA confirmed that the process had been formally completed.
“The FIFA tribunal has officially approved today the change of sporting nationality for player Rani Khedira,” the federation announced on its Facebook page.
Tunisia have already secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The North African side have been drawn in Group F alongside the Netherlands, Japan, and a yet-to-be-determined team from the UEFA region.
Khedira’s addition could provide valuable experience and depth in midfield as Tunisia prepare for the expanded 48-team tournament.
