Manchester United push for Guimarães as Real Madrid re-enter the race

Manchester United are advancing in their pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes, with negotiations ongoing over a deal valued at approximately €80 million. However, renewed interest from Real Madrid has introduced fresh uncertainty into discussions that had been progressing steadily.

The potential transfer has gathered momentum following Newcastle United’s heavy Champions League exit to Barcelona, a result that has increased the likelihood of a high-profile departure. United have identified the 28-year-old midfielder as a natural successor to Casemiro, who is set to leave the club and is understood to have endorsed Guimarães as an ideal replacement due to his leadership profile and Premier League experience.

Early indications suggested that alignment between player and club could facilitate a relatively smooth agreement. However, Real Madrid’s late intervention has significantly altered the dynamics of the deal.

Madrid’s long-standing interest resurfaces

Real Madrid’s admiration for Guimarães is not recent. The midfielder was previously identified during Carlo Ancelotti’s earlier tenure as a long-term successor to midfield stalwarts Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. A move in 2022 came close to materialising before Newcastle intervened with a €50 million transfer from Olympique Lyonnais, effectively redirecting his career to the Premier League.

Now, with midfield evolution once again a priority in Madrid, the Spanish club have revived their interest. The anticipated departure of Eduardo Camavinga has intensified the need for a physically dominant and tactically versatile presence in the centre of the pitch.

Ancelotti — who currently works with Guimarães at international level — is believed to be a strong advocate for the move, reinforcing his recommendation to club president Florentino Perez as Madrid reassess their midfield options.

Transfer battle taking shape

With Manchester United attempting to accelerate negotiations and Real Madrid re-establishing contact, Guimarães is emerging as one of the most contested midfield targets ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

United’s need is immediate and clearly defined, but Madrid’s historical interest, strategic timing, and managerial backing could prove decisive. As a result, what initially appeared to be a straightforward acquisition is now developing into a high-stakes contest between two of Europe’s most influential clubs.
