Late Mallorca Strike Deals Real Madrid Title Blow

Real Madrid’s La Liga title ambitions took a significant hit as Vedat Muriqi’s stoppage-time winner secured a dramatic victory for Mallorca, leaving Alvaro Arbeloa’s side four points adrift of leaders Barcelona.

The hosts struck first just before half-time, with Manu Morlanes calmly finishing after controlling Pablo Maffeo’s cross and placing the ball into the bottom corner.

Despite dominating large spells and creating numerous chances, Real were repeatedly denied by an inspired Leo Roman in the Mallorca goal.

The keeper produced standout saves to frustrate Kylian Mbappe - first blocking his powerful effort with an outstretched leg, then tipping away a curling shot destined for the far corner.

Arda Guler also came close but was denied by another sharp stop.

Mallorca had their own opportunities, with Morlanes heading over from close range before making amends with his goal.

Real appeared to have rescued a point late on when Eder Militao rose to head home Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner in the 88th minute.

But the drama was far from over.

In the very first minute of stoppage time, Muriqi struck his 19th league goal of the season, sealing a memorable win for Mallorca and leaving the visitors stunned.

The defeat - Real’s first against Mallorca since February 2023 - prevents them from closing the gap on Barcelona, who could extend their lead further against Atletico Madrid later on Saturday.

For Mallorca, the victory lifts them two points clear of the relegation zone, while Real must quickly regroup ahead of their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Bayern Munich.
