European heavyweights Manchester City, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Juventus are set to headline a star-studded pre-season tournament in Hong Kong this August.
The four giants will clash in the inaugural Hong Kong Football Festival, bringing elite football to Asia in what promises to be one of the standout events of the summer calendar.
Premier League champions Manchester City will face Serie A leaders Inter Milan on Saturday, 1 August, in the opening fixture at the state-of-the-art Kai Tak Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s side — currently battling Arsenal for the Premier League title — will be led by prolific striker Erling Haaland as they take on an Inter team closing in on their 21st Serie A crown under Cristian Chivu.
The 50,000-capacity venue, which opened last year, features a retractable roof and air-conditioning, ensuring optimal conditions despite Hong Kong’s intense summer climate.
The festival concludes on Wednesday, 5 August, with Chelsea facing Juventus in another high-profile clash.
Juventus, managed by Luciano Spalletti, are currently fourth in Serie A and pushing to secure Champions League qualification, while Chelsea arrive amid uncertainty.
Despite winning the Club World Cup last year, the Blues have struggled domestically, losing five of their last six Premier League matches. Head coach Liam Rosenior is under mounting pressure, and it remains unclear if he will still be in charge by the time the squad travels to Hong Kong.
Chelsea also endured a heavy Champions League exit, losing 8-2 on aggregate to PSG in the last 16.
Supporters in Hong Kong will not only witness the matches but also have the chance to attend open training sessions featuring some of football’s biggest names.
Fans can expect to see stars such as:
The football action doesn’t stop there. Bayern Munich and Aston Villa have already confirmed a friendly match in the city on Friday, 7 August, further boosting Hong Kong’s reputation as a global football destination.
Last summer’s pre-season fixtures drew sell-out crowds of 50,000, with fans packing the stadium to watch Liverpool vs AC Milan and Tottenham vs Arsenal — the first North London derby played outside the UK.
With demand expected to surge again, this year’s festival is set to deliver another unforgettable football spectacle in Asia.
