Sam Kerr struck twice to equal a Chelsea goalscoring record as the Blues boosted their Champions League qualification hopes with a convincing 4-1 win over Everton.
Chelsea moved four points clear of third-placed Manchester United, tightening their grip on a top-two finish, while Kerr’s brace saw her match Fran Kirby’s club record of 63 Women’s Super League goals.
The visitors made a fast start at Goodison Park, with Kerr finishing neatly from Erin Cuthbert’s through ball inside six minutes.
However, Everton responded almost immediately in spectacular fashion, as Yuka Momiki spotted Hannah Hampton off her line and fired home from long range.
Chelsea controlled much of the first half but were repeatedly denied by goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan, with several chances going begging.
After the break, Chelsea stepped up a gear.
Kerr restored their lead just two minutes into the second half, meeting Lauren James’ precise pass with a clinical first-time finish.
That goal proved decisive, especially after Everton had missed a golden chance moments earlier when Maz Pacheco struck the bar from close range.
Chelsea quickly took control, adding a third through Ellie Carpenter’s deflected effort before Cuthbert sealed the win with a powerful half-volley from the edge of the box.
Kerr’s performance underlined her importance to Chelsea, as she not only scored twice but also played a key role in the team’s attacking play.
She was unlucky not to claim a hat-trick, with a close-range effort controversially not given.
With her contract nearing its end, the Australian forward showed she remains a crucial figure for the club.
For Everton, it was another disappointing home defeat - their eighth of the campaign - extending a poor run of form.
Despite moments of promise, including Momiki’s stunning strike, they were ultimately outclassed by a clinical Chelsea side.
With just two games remaining, Everton will be aiming to finish the season strongly and avoid slipping further down the table.
