Mohamed Salah's First Comments on His Future After Leaving Liverpool

2 May 2026

In his first official statement regarding his future after announcing his departure from Liverpool, Egyptian star Mohamed Salah confirmed that he is completely at ease with his decision to end his career with the Reds at the end of the current season. The Egyptian international will conclude a trophy-laden nine-year career at Anfield this summer, having reached an agreement with the club to terminate his two-year contract, which he signed 12 months ago.

In an interview with former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard on TNT Sports, Salah said: "I feel that finishing the season this way is the right decision now, and I'm at ease with it."

He added: "It's been a difficult season for all of us, and I don't want to say anything more."

He continued: "I'm happy about it. Everything that's happened this season makes me say: no, it's time to leave, so I'm happy." When asked about his future plans, Salah didn't rule anything out, but rather opened the door to widespread speculation by saying: "Honestly, I feel I still have a lot to offer. I'm in excellent physical condition, and I've played many games this season. I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do, and to be fair, I have several good options."

This season has undoubtedly been the most frustrating of Salah's career with Liverpool. It remains etched in the minds of fans due to the public dispute between the Egyptian star and manager Arne Slott last December, when Salah accused the manager of "dumping him down" after being dropped from Liverpool's starting lineup amidst the team's poor results.
