Chelsea’s Nightmare Start Continues as Nottingham Forest Seal Sixth Straight League Defeat

Chelsea’s alarming run of form continued on Monday night as Nottingham Forest secured a convincing 3–1 victory at Stamford Bridge, handing the Blues their sixth consecutive Premier League defeat.

Interim manager Calum McFarlane was left frustrated by his side’s disastrous opening spell, which ultimately set the tone for another damaging result.

Forest made an immediate impact, with Taiwo Awoniyi finding the net inside the opening two minutes. The visitors doubled their advantage shortly after, as Igor Jesus calmly converted from the penalty spot in the 15th minute.

Chelsea’s defensive struggles persisted after the break, with Awoniyi grabbing his second goal early in the second half to effectively put the game beyond reach. João Pedro pulled one back deep into stoppage time, but it proved nothing more than a late consolation.

Speaking after the match, McFarlane did not hold back in his assessment of the opening phase.

“Ultimately, the first 15 minutes was not acceptable,” he said. “The early goal was a bit of a sucker punch. We know that they like to cross to the back post. We know that the No 9 likes to peel to the back post. We should defend that moment better.”

The defeat leaves Chelsea in ninth place, now 10 points adrift of fifth-placed Aston Villa. With the gap widening, any realistic hopes of securing a top-five finish—and Champions League qualification—appear to be slipping away.

Attention now turns to a daunting clash against fourth-placed Liverpool on Saturday, where Chelsea will be desperate to halt their downward spiral.
