Arsenal are edging closer to ending their 22-year wait for a Premier League title, while Tottenham continue their fight to avoid relegation in a dramatic weekend of English top-flight action.
Mikel Arteta’s side have regained control of the title race after Manchester City dropped crucial points in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Everton earlier this week. The Gunners now know victory away to West Ham on Sunday could put them within touching distance of Premier League glory.
Meanwhile, Tottenham host Leeds United on Monday night in a high-stakes clash that could have huge implications at the bottom of the table.
Arsenal’s title challenge appeared to be fading after a costly dip in form allowed Manchester City back into contention. However, back-to-back league victories have restored belief across north London.
The mood around the club was lifted even further following Tuesday’s dramatic 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid at the Emirates Stadium, a result that booked Arsenal’s place in the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.
The Gunners currently sit five points clear of City, although Pep Guardiola’s side still have a game in hand. Arsenal’s remaining fixtures against West Ham, Burnley and Crystal Palace have heightened expectations that the title is finally within reach.
West Ham, however, are battling to avoid relegation and will be desperate for points at the London Stadium. The Hammers have not beaten Arsenal at home in the league since 2019, but former Gunners legend Thierry Henry believes Sunday’s fixture could still be dangerous.
“I always thought that City might drop points against Everton and my worry was West Ham away,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“So I’m going to stay in my lane and not celebrate too early because nothing is done, but I could see that happening.”
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi insists his side are still far from safe despite an improved run of form.
Spurs have collected seven points from their last three matches, offering renewed hope after a chaotic campaign. De Zerbi, appointed at the end of March following Igor Tudor’s disappointing interim spell, has overseen a noticeable improvement in performances.
Despite last week’s important 2-1 win at Aston Villa, the Italian coach warned his players against complacency.
“We can't forget what was the situation before Wolverhampton,” De Zerbi told TNT Sports.
“Before Wolverhampton it was a very sad situation and these memories have to stay in our head every day.”
Tottenham currently sit 17th in the table, just one point above West Ham. After facing Leeds, Spurs still have difficult fixtures against Chelsea and Everton, both of whom remain in the hunt for European qualification.
Leeds, meanwhile, can guarantee Premier League survival with a win in north London on Monday.
Chelsea’s miserable Premier League form continued as the Blues suffered a sixth straight defeat, leaving their hopes of securing Champions League football virtually over.
Under interim manager Calum McFarlane, Chelsea have slipped to ninth in the standings and have failed to win a league game since early March.
The Blues have managed just one goal in their last six Premier League matches, with Monday’s 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest adding to growing frustration at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea now face another stern challenge against Liverpool this weekend, with Arne Slot’s side closing in on a Champions League place.
