Arsenal Look to Finish Strong at Emirates as Burnley Face Uphill Battle

Arsenal will aim to cap off their final home match of the season in style when they welcome Burnley to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday night. Kick-off is at 9pm CAT, live on SuperSport.

History strongly favours the Gunners heading into the clash. Arsenal have suffered just one defeat in their last 19 Premier League meetings with Burnley, a narrow 1-0 loss in December 2020. Burnley have also struggled badly in this fixture, never scoring more than once in a single league game against the North London side.

The Emirates has proven especially unforgiving for promoted teams. Arsenal are unbeaten in 44 home league matches against newly promoted opposition since 2010, winning each of their last 15 such games with a combined score of 43-9.

Mikel Arteta’s side have also built a formidable record in their final home fixtures of the campaign. Arsenal have lost only once in their last 28 final home league matches, recording 12 wins and two draws since a defeat to Aston Villa in 2011.

Burnley, meanwhile, arrive in difficult form. The Clarets have managed just one victory in their last 27 league matches and have historically struggled in their final away fixtures of a season, winning only twice — against Aston Villa in 2015 and Norwich City in 2020.

Defensively, Arsenal have been among the league’s strongest sides this season. The Gunners have secured 16 clean-sheet victories, with seven of those coming via 1-0 scorelines. Their squad depth has also been crucial, with no Premier League side registering more goals or assists from substitutes this campaign.

Leandro Trossard’s winner against West Ham last time out, created by Martin Ødegaard off the bench, highlighted Arsenal’s ability to make decisive impacts late in matches.

At the other end of the pitch, Viktor Gyökeres has flourished at the Emirates. Nine of his 14 league goals have come at home, placing him alongside Arsenal greats Thierry Henry, Olivier Giroud and Alexandre Lacazette as players who reached double figures in home goals during their debut season.

With momentum, history and home advantage all on their side, Arsenal will be confident of ending the season at the Emirates on a high note, while Burnley face the daunting challenge of upsetting one of the league’s most dominant home records.
