Ibrahima Konate has expressed his sadness at not being able to properly say goodbye to Liverpool supporters after confirming he will leave the club when his contract expires this summer.
The 27-year-old France international joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 in a £35 million deal and went on to make 183 appearances for the Reds.
During his time at Anfield, he helped the club win the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cups.
Although discussions had taken place over a new contract, negotiations ultimately broke down due to differences between the player and the club regarding his valuation and salary expectations.
In an emotional message shared on Instagram, Konate thanked Liverpool fans for their unwavering support throughout his four years on Merseyside and admitted he was heartbroken not to have known his final appearance had already come.
"I am deeply saddened that I didn't get the chance to say goodbye to all of you at the last game," Konate wrote.
"At the time, I had no idea it would be my final match wearing this shirt in front of you.
"Anfield is a truly special place and playing in front of those supporters was something I never took for granted."
The defender described his departure as a difficult decision but said he felt ready to embrace a new challenge.
"From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything."
"I love you all and will carry Liverpool with me wherever I go."
"This isn't an easy goodbye, but it's time for a new chapter in my career."
Liverpool also paid tribute to the centre-back in an official statement, thanking him for his contribution and wishing him success in the next stage of his career.
Reflecting on his time at the club, Konate spoke of the unforgettable memories he leaves behind, both joyful and painful.
"It has been an honour to represent Liverpool," he said.
"We've experienced incredible highs and difficult lows together, won trophies, faced challenges and built friendships that will last a lifetime.
"There have also been heartbreaking moments, none more painful than losing our brother Diogo Jota."
Konate also revealed that the past year had been especially difficult on a personal level following the death of his father.
"Losing my father was one of the hardest experiences of my life," he added.
"But even through those difficult times, my commitment to this club never wavered. I always gave everything I had for this badge."
His departure brings an end to a successful spell at Anfield, with Konate leaving as a Premier League champion and a respected figure among Liverpool supporters.
