South Africa Held by Jamaica in Final World Cup Warm-Up

South Africa wrapped up their World Cup preparations with a 1-1 draw against Jamaica at the Estadio Hidalgo in Pachuca, Mexico, on Saturday.

The result extends Bafana Bafana's winless run to five matches and raises concerns ahead of their opening World Cup fixture against co-hosts Mexico at the Estadio Azteca on 11 June.

Despite showing flashes of quality in attack, Hugo Broos' side once again struggled defensively, highlighting areas that require immediate attention before the tournament begins.

After a goalless first half, South Africa broke the deadlock early in the second period through Lyle Foster.

The striker calmly finished from inside the penalty area to give Bafana the lead and provide a timely confidence boost ahead of the biggest challenge of their campaign.

Jamaica responded quickly, however, with Dwayne Atkinson capitalising on a set-piece situation to score from close range and restore parity for the Reggae Boyz.

The match opened up after the equaliser, with both teams creating several opportunities in an entertaining end-to-end contest.

However, neither side could find a decisive breakthrough as the game ended level.

Broos admitted afterwards that he was not entirely satisfied with the performance, stressing the need for improvements during the final days of training at South Africa's base camp in Pachuca.

For Jamaica, the draw represents another encouraging result on the road and extends their unbeaten run in recent friendly matches as they continue preparations for future international assignments.

While the stalemate offered valuable match practice, it also served as a reminder that South Africa still have work to do if they are to make a strong impression when their World Cup campaign gets underway against Mexico.
