Arbeloa Emerges as Fulham's Leading Managerial Candidate

Fulham have opened discussions with former Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa as they search for a successor to Marco Silva.

Silva has ended his five-year spell at Craven Cottage after accepting an offer from Portuguese giants Benfica, who were left looking for a new manager following Jose Mourinho's move to Real Madrid.

Arbeloa, 43, has emerged as one of the leading contenders for the Fulham vacancy.

However, sources close to the club have indicated that negotiations are still at an early stage and no agreement is imminent.

The former Spain international has spent his entire coaching career within Real Madrid's setup, progressing through the club's youth ranks before taking temporary charge of the first team last season.

He stepped into the role after Xabi Alonso departed midway through the campaign to take over at Chelsea.

As a player, Arbeloa enjoyed two spells with Real Madrid and also gained Premier League experience during his time with Liverpool and West Ham United.

Fulham have also explored the possibility of appointing former Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna.

However, a reported £8 million release clause complicated any potential move before McKenna ultimately left the Championship club to take a break from football and spend more time with his family.

The Cottagers are looking to build on an 11th-place finish in the Premier League last season as they prepare for a new era under a potential new manager.
