Japan Cruise Past Tunisia to Seal World Cup Elimination

Tunisia's disappointing World Cup campaign hit a new low as a comprehensive defeat to Japan confirmed their exit from the tournament at the group stage.

The North African side arrived in Guadalupe, Mexico, reeling from a turbulent week that included a crushing 5-1 loss to Sweden, the dismissal of head coach Sabri Lamouchi, and the appointment of former Saudi Arabia manager Herve Renard.

Any hopes of a response were quickly extinguished by a sharp and clinical Japanese performance.

Japan struck inside four minutes when a swift counter-attack carved open the Tunisian defence.

Crystal Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada finished the move from close range, tapping home to give the Samurai Blue an early advantage at Monterrey Stadium.

The Asian side doubled their lead soon after through Ayase Ueda, who produced a superb finish from the edge of the area.

The striker threaded his effort through a defender's legs and into the far corner, leaving goalkeeper Aymen Dahmen with no chance.

Tunisia struggled to gain any foothold in the contest and looked short of ideas throughout.

Japan dominated possession and repeatedly exploited the space afforded to them, showcasing their fluid attacking style and tactical discipline.

Junya Ito added a third goal after being played through on goal, calmly slotting past Dahmen to put the result beyond doubt.

Ueda then completed the scoring with his second of the evening, guiding a looping header into the far corner to cap an outstanding display from the Japanese attack.

Japan were superior in every department and never looked troubled by a Tunisia side whose attacks were comfortably contained and lacked any real threat.

The victory moves Japan onto four points and puts them in a strong position to reach the last 32.

They can secure qualification outright when they face Sweden in their final Group match on Friday.

Tunisia, meanwhile, will conclude their campaign against group leaders the Netherlands, with their World Cup hopes already over.
