Jarell Quansah is poised to start at right-back as England prepare to face Mexico in a high-stakes World Cup last-16 clash at the iconic Estadio Azteca.
The Bayer Leverkusen defender is expected to replace Djed Spence, who reportedly picked up a minor muscle issue on Sunday morning, while Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon are also set to return to Thomas Tuchel's starting line-up in place of Noni Madueke and Marcus Rashford.
BBC Sport expects England to line up as follows:
Jordan Pickford; Jarell Quansah, Ezri Konsa, Marc Guehi, Nico O'Reilly; Declan Rice, Elliot Anderson; Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon; Harry Kane.
Quansah, 23, is back in contention after recovering from the ankle injury he sustained during England's group-stage victory over Panama.
The match kicks off at 01:00 BST on Monday and will be broadcast live on BBC One and iPlayer.
England's preparations have been complicated by a series of defensive injuries.
Spence, who featured at left-back in the goalless draw with Ghana and came off the bench against both Croatia and Panama, is now expected to miss out after reporting muscle discomfort.
Meanwhile, Chelsea captain Reece James remains unavailable.
The right-back has missed England's last two matches after suffering a hamstring injury against Ghana and has yet to return to full training.
The Football Association confirmed James has continued to follow an individual rehabilitation programme, while Tuchel revealed on Saturday that a late fitness assessment would determine whether the 26-year-old could even make the substitutes' bench against Mexico.
England's injury concerns at right-back began before the tournament when Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento withdrew from the squad with a calf problem.
Rather than naming another specialist right-back, Tuchel opted to call up Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah, leaving his squad short of natural options in the position.
Declan Rice ended England's last-32 victory over DR Congo at right-back despite managing a hamstring issue of his own.
The Arsenal midfielder is expected to be fit enough to start against Mexico but will likely return to his preferred role in midfield.
Quansah's availability offers Tuchel a timely solution, although Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa - who has started all four World Cup matches at centre-back - remains another option should further changes become necessary.
With a place in the quarter-finals at stake, England will hope their defensive reshuffle proves effective against an unbeaten Mexico side in one of football's most intimidating venues.
